The legend associated with Yngvi, king of the Swedes
Yngvi or Freyr, legendary king from which the inguz rune takes its name.
The rune inguz, also called inwaz, and representative of the sound [ŋ], could be written in various ways. It seems that its origin is in Yngvi, which in turn could be the god Freyr (Freyr means 'lord'). According to legend (although there are many variants), it is said that Odin came from Asia and conquered the northern lands. Later, he gave Denmark to his son Skjöldr and Sweden to his son Yngvi.
