There are different types of Crosses, since it is a simple symbol that has existed since the dawn of time and with which a lot of different meanings are associated.

In this article we will look at a few types and some tattoos based on them, which may interest you if you want to get any of these designs.

Catholic Cross

The Catholic cross is one of the best known and most widely used cross designs not only in the world of tattoos, but also in jewelry, pieces of clothing ... It is a cross with the lower tail longer than the upper one, which wants to emphasize the pain and suffering of Jesus on the cross.

Coptic cross

The interesting Coptic cross belongs to Coptic Christianity, native to Egypt and very present in places like the United States or Canada. The Coptic cross has three additional points at the end of each arm that represent the Holy Trinity and, in total, there are twelve arms, which represent the apostles. As a curious fact, it is a tradition that the faithful of this religion carry the Coptic cross tattooed on the inside of the right wrist.

The Celtic cross is exactly the same as the Catholic cross but with a halo on the back. Legend says that Saint Patrick, to introduce Christianity to the islands, combined the solar cross and the Catholic cross so that the pagans would accept it better. Since then it has become a symbol of these places, especially thanks to the hundreds of crosses of this style that we can find outdoors.

Orthodox cross

Finally, among the different types of crosses we have the Orthodox cross, the one in the photo that heads the article and the one typical of places like Russia, where Orthodox Christianity is professed. As you will see is distinguished by having two additional cross members: one in the upper part, which symbolizes the tablet on which "Jesus, King of the Jews" was inscribed during his crucifixion and a lower one, which symbolizes the nails that were driven into the feet.
