The Chief of the Yakuza arrested for his tattoos

Yakuza chief arrested for his tattoos

Is it possible to be arrested by the police for the simple fact of tattoos what we have? Well basically this is what has happened. Although we must also thank social networks. And it is that, in the last hours a news has been viralized by which it is confirmed that the legendary head of the Yakuza (the Japanese mafia) has been arrested for his tattoos in Thailand. Country in which he was fled.

As we can see in the images that accompany this article, it is an old man with a large part of his body tattooed with the characteristic tattoos of japanese origin. Specifically, it is about Shigeharu Shirai, 72 years old. Although authorities believe that Shirai is now retired, he was under an arrest warrant from the Japanese police for his alleged role in the murder of a member of a rival gang in 2003.

Following that event, Shigeharu Shirai fled to Thailand, where he married a local woman and took up a seemingly peaceful retreat. However, surely the well-known "Japanese mafia boss" did not expect that a simple photograph published on the Facebook social network in which he could be seen playing checkers in a street with his recognizable Yakuza tattoos, I would take him before the authorities.

The photo quickly went viral and was shared more than 10.000 times, drawing the attention of the Japanese police, who alerted the Thai authorities. Be that as it may, and although today these types of tattoos are seen by much of the West as authentic works of art (leaving aside the facts committed by the people who wear them), Shirai will spend a long time in the shade as he is accused of gunning down the boss of a rival faction.
