When do you have to revise a tattoo?

Tattoo

When is it necessary to revise a tattoo? When we talk about review a tattoo (not to be confused with carrying out a cover up), we are referring to having to carry out an extra session of the tattoo that we have done because either the tattoo has not healed correctly or that excessive ink has oozed and the skin has not retained the amount necessary for the tattoo to look as we wanted.

Basically, we are talking about having to redo the same design since, it is possible that some parts of the tattoo have not been well marked or one area has more intensity of color than the other. Although it seems strange, it is something more common than it seems, although many factors come into play that we will explain concisely throughout this article.

Bad healing

Even if you follow all the indications for healing, on rare occasions something unforeseen may arise that affects the healing process of the tattoo. It is not usual, I know, but it is possible. If some kind of problem arises with the healing of the tattoo, it is more than possible that the tattoo is left with some damage or does not look as we expected. Therefore, we could find ourselves in the situation of having to review the tattoo.

Excessive ink drainage

There are people and rather areas of the body in which we can find a situation in which the body oozes an excess of ink. When we get a tattoo, it is normal for the skin to ooze ink to a greater or lesser extent, but if we find ourselves in a situation in which our body has done it excessively, many lines or filling areas of the tattoo may not be well defined.

The passage of time

The passage of time affects, and a lot, the tattoo. It is something that we have already commented on more than one occasion and that we never tire of repeating. If you do not take care of your tattoos correctly over the years (obviously we are talking about decades) they will be very damaged. If necessary, we will have to review them so that they do not become a very damaged tattoo. But yes, in some extreme cases, we could be forced to cover the tattoo with a new one.

The tattoo artist is a key factor

Yes, the tattoo artist will play a factor in having to face a review of the tattoo shortly after the healing period of the tattoo has passed. Personally, I have put myself in the hands of four different tattoo artists and with one of them, I saw myself obliged to do a second session that was basically going over the entire tattoo completely. On the other hand, with another tattoo artist (with whom I have tattooed more times) one of the tattoos has become quite clear but, in part, that my skin (in that specific area) does not grabbed fine ink. Nothing that a session can fix in the future.
